Ambient sound
Ambient sound is the all-encompassing sound at a given location and time which will include sound from many sources near and far. Ambient sound can be quantified in terms of the equivalent continuous sound pressure level. The London Plan, Published by the Mayor of London in March 2016, defines ambient noise as: ‘Ongoing sound in the environment such as from transport and industry, as distinct from individual events, such as a noisy all-night party. Unless stated otherwise, noise includes vibration.’
